# Altcoin Spot Volume Hits One-Year High Relative to Bitcoin

> Editorial content, written by CryptoResearch.

Altcoin spot trading volume has climbed to nearly four times that of Bitcoin, reaching levels not seen since September 2025 as market activity shifts toward smaller assets.

Spot trading volume for altcoins has surged to nearly four times the volume of Bitcoin, marking the highest ratio recorded since September 2025. Data from Glassnode indicates that the rotation into altcoins is accelerating, with the Altcoin Season Index rising to 62% in late September, up from 50% the previous week and 33% a month ago.

Performance metrics show a broad rally across the sector. In the seven days leading up to September 22, approximately 72.5% of altcoins tracked by Glassnode outperformed Bitcoin, a significant increase from the 39% recorded during a similar period in August. Additionally, 87% of altcoins listed on Binance were trading above their 200-day moving averages by the end of September.

While the spot market shows increased activity, the leverage landscape remains different. Perpetual futures open interest for altcoins has seen negligible growth over the past month. This stands in contrast to market tops in February 2021 and December 2024, which were characterized by a buildup in leveraged positions.

Glassnode also reported a rise in altcoin deposits flowing into exchanges. Such inflows are frequently viewed as a signal of potential sell pressure, as traders often move assets to exchanges when preparing to sell for cash or stablecoins.

Historical data from Glassnode suggests that previous spikes in altcoin volume relative to Bitcoin have often aligned with local price tops for Bitcoin.
