# Bhutan Transfers 400 Bitcoin to Unidentified Address

> Editorial content, written by CryptoResearch.

The Royal Government of Bhutan has moved 400 Bitcoin to an unlabelled address, reducing its tracked sovereign holdings to 518 BTC.

The Royal Government of Bhutan has transferred approximately 400 Bitcoin, valued at about $30.62 million, to an unidentified external address. According to blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain, this transaction leaves the country with roughly 518 BTC in its labeled on-chain holdings.

This latest movement marks a significant decline from the 13,000 BTC peak recorded in October 2024, representing a reduction of approximately 96%. The transfers are primarily attributed to Druk Holding and Investments, the nation's sovereign wealth fund, which has consistently moved Bitcoin to various counterparties throughout 2026.

Recipients of these transfers have included Binance, Galaxy Digital, and QCP Capital. In June 2026, 533 BTC were moved to Binance in a single transaction. While previous outflows were directed toward exchanges and institutional trading desks, the most recent transfer to an unlabelled address has prompted speculation regarding the government's intent.

Bhutan established its Bitcoin position through state-backed hydropower mining operations that commenced in 2019. Official government commentary has characterized these transfers as liquidity management, positioning the holdings as a treasury instrument. However, mining inflows to labeled wallets have been minimal for over a year, resulting in outflows that are not being replenished.

A portion of the reduction in labeled holdings may be linked to a December 2025 pledge of up to 10,000 BTC for the Gelephu Mindfulness City project. It remains unclear whether these assets were transferred to a development fund, sold for fiat currency, or moved to unlabelled wallets.

The cumulative outflows in 2026 have reached hundreds of millions of dollars. Analysts suggest that such large, opaque transfers from sovereign entities can impact market confidence regarding the stability of sovereign-level supply.
