# Bitcoin and Gold ETFs Record Combined Inflows of $7 Billion

> Editorial content, written by CryptoResearch.

Bitcoin and gold exchange-traded funds saw a record $7 billion in combined inflows over five US trading sessions, driven by investor interest in scarce assets amid concerns over US debt and currency stability.

Exchange-traded funds tracking Bitcoin and gold attracted approximately $7 billion across five US trading sessions. This record combined inflow highlights a growing investor focus on assets with limited supply as a hedge against fiscal pressures and currency weakness.

The SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) fund received about $3.4 billion, while the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) drew roughly $1.5 billion. Together, these two funds accounted for approximately 70% of the total inflows. Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Eric Balchunas noted that the five-day total represents a record for the pair, with both funds ranking among the top 10 US ETFs by weekly inflows.

The surge in demand coincides with rising prices for both assets, as Bitcoin moved above $80,000 and gold traded above $4,600 an ounce. This trend is linked to a narrative of scarcity, particularly as investors react to US public debt exceeding $40 trillion and Treasury-market liquidity measures.

Market participants offer varying perspectives on the shift. Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan noted that traditional 60/40 portfolios remain fully exposed to fiat currency, prompting a search for diversification. Strive Chief Executive Matt Cole suggested that dollar debasement increases the pool of capital seeking limited-supply assets, a category in which Bitcoin is increasingly included.

Bernstein analysts suggested that the current fiscal environment, characterized by record sovereign debt burdens, may lead policymakers to favor currency debasement over fiscal restraint. The firm highlighted Bitcoin's fixed issuance and historical holder behavior as factors supporting its role in institutional portfolios. BlackRock has also noted that historical modeling indicates a 1% to 2% Bitcoin allocation could improve the risk-adjusted performance of a traditional 60/40 portfolio.

Despite the current alignment, Bitcoin remains more volatile than gold and possesses a shorter history as a defensive asset. Whether Bitcoin can maintain its inflow momentum during periods of dollar strength or rising real yields will serve as a test of its status relative to gold.
