# Bitcoin Nears Positive September Close as Traders Eye October Seasonality

> Editorial content, written by CryptoResearch.

Bitcoin is tracking toward a rare positive September finish, with analysts pointing to spot market demand as the key factor for a potential October breakout.

Bitcoin traded near $84,000 as the month drew to a close, marking a gain of more than 6.5% for September. This performance stands in contrast to the month's historical average loss of approximately 2.4%, providing a constructive setup as the market enters October, a period that has historically delivered an average gain near 20% and a median return around 15%.

Despite the positive momentum, Bitfinex analysts noted that a sustained breakout will require increased spot buying. While Bitcoin has consolidated between $83,000 and $87,000, overhead supply remains a hurdle. Data shows approximately 1.39 million BTC has a cost basis between $84,000 and $86,500, creating potential sell pressure as holders look to exit at breakeven.

The market has seen a significant reduction in leverage, with futures open interest dropping from over 700,000 BTC on September 21 to 644,000 BTC by September 29. Bitfinex analysts suggested that while this decline lowers the risk of cascading liquidations, it also reflects a cooling in speculative appetite, shifting the burden of price discovery to the spot market.

Demand is currently being tested in the $82,500 to $84,000 range, where the amount of Bitcoin with a cost basis in that band rose from 110,000 BTC on September 27 to 306,000 BTC on September 30. Clearing the resistance near $85,000 would return roughly 760,000 BTC to profit, potentially lifting the total supply in profit above 75%.

ETF inflows have also slowed, with the ratio of ETF purchases to newly mined Bitcoin falling from 25.6 times on September 21 to 1.8 times on September 29. Analysts estimate that daily inflows of approximately $190 million, or five times daily issuance, would be necessary to help clear the current resistance band.

Looking ahead, Bitfinex identified the $87,722 yearly open as a potential test if buying accelerates, with a conditional October target of $95,000 to $96,700. The outlook remains constructive as long as Bitcoin holds above $81,300, while a sustained move below that level could shift focus toward $77,000.

At the time of reporting, the broader market remained relatively quiet, with Ether trading near $2,700, XRP at $1.48, and Solana around $118.
