# Bitcoin Poised to Break Decade-Long September Losing Streak

> Editorial content, written by CryptoResearch.

Bitcoin is on track for a positive September, potentially marking its first back-to-back monthly gains since 2013 as it heads into a volatile fourth quarter.

Bitcoin is currently up approximately 7% for September, following a 25% gain in August. If the asset maintains these levels through the end of the month, it will break a pattern that has persisted since 2013, where every positive August was historically followed by a negative September.

A positive close would secure three consecutive months of gains for the asset, spanning from July through September. This performance would also result in a quarterly gain of more than 40%, marking the first positive quarter for bitcoin since Q3 2025.

Despite this momentum, the macro environment remains challenging. Bitcoin is trading at $84,000 against a backdrop of rising global bond yields, with the U.S. 10-year yield currently above 5.2%. Additionally, the MOVE index, which tracks bond market volatility, is sitting above 100, nearing its year-to-date highs.

Other assets are also showing sensitivity to these conditions. Oil prices are holding above $90 a barrel, contributing to ongoing inflation concerns, while gold recently fell about 3% to just above $4,000 an ounce.

Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, traders are monitoring two key events that could impact liquidity and risk appetite. A potential IPO for Anthropic in November may draw capital toward equity markets, though the specifics of the offering remain unfinalized. Furthermore, the U.S. midterm elections in November are expected to introduce additional volatility as the market reacts to the shifting policy landscape.

Historically, the fourth quarter has been a strong period for bitcoin, with CoinGlass data indicating an average gain of roughly 77%.
