# Centralized Exchange Spot Trading Volume Increases in August

> Editorial content, written by CryptoResearch.

Centralized crypto exchanges recorded $811 billion in spot trading volume during August, marking a 15% increase from the previous month as market activity recovered from a two-year low.

Centralized crypto exchanges saw a collective rise in spot trading volume to $811 billion in August, up from $705 billion in July. This growth follows a period where July figures reached a two-year low.

The recovery was broad-based, with most major exchanges reporting double-digit percentage increases. A Bitcoin price rally of more than 30% during the month is identified as the primary driver for this momentum. At the peak of activity in mid-August, daily spot volumes reached approximately $37 billion.

Coinbase recorded a 36% month-over-month increase in spot volume, outpacing the market average. KuCoin reported a 23% gain, while Binance grew 21% to reach $227 billion in spot volume. Despite this growth, Binance maintains a market share of roughly 28%, which represents a gradual compression from its position two years ago.

Despite the August rebound, total volumes remain below peaks observed in 2025. Structural challenges persist as spot ETFs and digital asset treasury products continue to attract institutional capital that might otherwise utilize exchange order books. These products provide off-ramps for large buyers who do not require centralized exchange liquidity.

Analysts indicate that while institutional flows are diversifying away from centralized exchange spot trading for assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum, demand for altcoins continues to support these platforms. New token launches remain focused on centralized exchange listings to secure visibility and liquidity.
