# Centrifuge Targets Transparency Gap in Tokenized Assets

Centrifuge reports that only 29.2% of tokenized assets provide verifiable onchain data, prompting a new product update aimed at improving transparency.

Tokenization has faced criticism for failing to deliver on its promise of radical transparency, with a recent report highlighting that only 29.2% of tokenized asset value features verifiable onchain holdings data. This leaves more than two-thirds of the market reliant on offchain reports and the reputation of issuers rather than ledger-based proof.

Centrifuge, a platform for bringing real-world assets onchain, announced its V3.2 update on October 5, 2026, to address this issue. The update introduces an Onchain Portfolio Manager, which shifts accounting, net asset value calculations, and trade execution from offchain spreadsheets to smart contracts. This move allows for the management of multi-asset vaults, including treasuries and equities, in a programmable environment.

To further improve verification, Centrifuge is partnering with Chronicle Labs to implement Proof of Asset oracles. These oracles provide cryptographically verifiable attestations regarding fund holdings and valuations. Centrifuge currently holds between $1 billion and $1.8 billion in total value locked across its deployments, with over $2 billion in assets tokenized throughout its history.

The broader tokenized real-world asset market was valued between $34 billion and $39 billion as of early October 2026. Centrifuge argues that verifiable data is a requirement for institutional adoption and deeper DeFi integration, as it allows risk managers to monitor exposures continuously and enables developers to build products with clearer guarantees.

While the shift toward oracle-based attestations narrows the scope of trust required by investors, it does not eliminate it entirely, as users must still rely on the methodology of the oracle feeds. Additionally, moving accounting to smart contracts introduces potential risks related to code bugs or errors in automated logic.

The industry will be watching the 29.2% transparency figure in future reports. If the metric fails to rise alongside the growth of the overall market, it may signal a widening gap between the promises of tokenization and its actual delivery.
