# Coinbase Completes International Exchange Migration to Deribit

> Editorial content, written by CryptoResearch.

Coinbase has finalized the transition of its international derivatives trading to Deribit, shifting operations away from its former venue and requiring institutional clients to update their API connections.

Coinbase finished migrating its International Exchange to Deribit on October 1, marking the end of trading on its previous international platform. The former venue has transitioned to a read-only state, with all trading activity now consolidated on Deribit.

The migration, which was marked as complete at 10:02 UTC, aims to pool derivatives liquidity that was previously divided between the two platforms. Coinbase Bermuda Limited continues to serve as the broker, custodian, and primary counterparty for institutional clients, routing their orders to Deribit.

Institutional clients using API or FIX connections must now use Deribit endpoints and generate new API keys, as previous keys are no longer functional. Additionally, any open orders that were active during the transition were canceled, requiring users to manually recreate them on the new venue.

The shift introduces changes to settlement cycles for perpetual positions, which now settle daily at 08:00 UTC rather than the previous five-minute cycle. Funding continues to accrue continuously and is cash-settled at the same daily time.

While trade history from the former International Exchange will not appear on Deribit, Coinbase stated that legacy trade and order APIs will remain accessible for approximately 12 months. Users may see block-trade entries tagged as migration artifacts, which represent the recreation of positions at the settlement price.

For retail users, core workflows on the Coinbase app and website remain largely the same, though market data and interface elements may appear different. Access to specific derivatives products remains subject to account type, location, and regulatory status, with Coinbase continuing to manage its CFTC-regulated futures and US Prime options separately.
