# Constellation Energy Announces $4.3 Billion Nuclear Upgrade Deal With Google

Constellation Energy is investing over $4.3 billion to increase nuclear capacity by 890 MW across 11 reactors, supported by long-term power purchase agreements with Google.

Constellation Energy revealed a plan on October 6, 2026, to invest more than $4.3 billion into upgrading 11 nuclear reactors located across Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The project aims to increase generating capacity by 890 MW on the PJM Interconnection grid.

The initiative is backed by long-term contracts with Google. This includes a 20-year power purchase agreement for the new capacity and a separate 15-year agreement covering 2,700 MW from Constellation’s existing nuclear fleet. Additionally, the companies have entered into a five-year technology collaboration involving Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise.

The first portions of the added power are expected to come online in 2028, with full delivery projected by 2032. The upgrades are intended to extract more electricity from existing sites rather than building new ones. Following the announcement, Constellation Energy shares rose as much as 15% intraday.

The project is expected to sustain approximately 4,400 existing jobs and create about 7,200 temporary construction roles. PJM Interconnection, the grid serving these plants, covers 13 states and the District of Columbia, providing power to over 67 million people.

This deal follows similar arrangements Constellation has made with Microsoft and Amazon to meet rising electricity demand from AI and data centers. The Amazon partnership has already initiated over $3 billion in plant upgrades.

For investors, the long-term nature of the contracts provides a multi-year outlook on demand. However, the timeline for the full 890 MW capacity remains subject to potential regulatory reviews, engineering challenges, or cost variations leading up to the 2032 target.
