# Ethereum Developers Advance EIP-8141 to Enable Alternative Fee Payments

> Editorial content, written by CryptoResearch.

Ethereum developers have scheduled the implementation of EIP-8141, a proposal designed to allow users to pay transaction fees using stablecoins instead of ETH.

Ethereum developers are moving forward with a proposal known as EIP-8141, or Frame Transactions, which aims to eliminate the requirement for users to hold ETH to cover transaction fees. The feature is currently slated for inclusion in a major network upgrade anticipated in 2027.

The proposal introduces a mechanism to separate transaction authorization, fee payment, and execution. This structure enables third parties or payment applications to cover gas costs, while users settle fees using stablecoins. Additionally, the update is intended to support post-quantum cryptography and allow for the consolidation of multiple actions into a single transaction.

Beyond fee payment flexibility, the proposal provides users with the ability to modify the authorization rules or keys governing an account without the need to transfer assets to a new address. This functionality is intended to provide account abstraction benefits.

Vitalik Buterin, an author of the proposal, noted that progress has been achieved regarding the feature. The specification remains in draft form as developers prepare for the 2027 implementation.
