# Ethereum Faces Mixed Signals as ETF Outflows Continue and Derivatives Selling Intensifies

> Editorial content, written by CryptoResearch.

US spot Ether ETFs have recorded five consecutive days of net outflows, while aggressive derivatives selling persists even as the broader price structure remains resilient.

US spot Ether ETFs have seen five straight days of net outflows, shedding $205.88 million since Sept. 29. On Oct. 5 alone, the products recorded $50.76 million in net outflows, bringing cumulative net inflows to approximately $13.75 billion as ETH traded near $2,711.

While institutional demand appears to be retreating, on-chain data shows mixed behavior among long-term holders. Blockchain analytics firm Santiment reported that the Age Consumed metric reached 580 million token-days on Sept. 30, the highest level since June 2. However, aggregate exchange balances remained largely stable, suggesting that the movement of dormant coins may be related to wallet reorganizations or staking activities rather than broad distribution.

Derivatives markets are showing signs of aggressive selling, though the impact on price remains limited. Ethereum’s Estimated Leverage Ratio has dropped to 0.66, the lowest level in seven months, which CryptoQuant contributor Arab Chain suggests indicates a reduced appetite for high-leverage positions.

Despite this, open interest on Binance remains elevated at roughly $3.3 billion, a 43% increase from Aug. 6. Simultaneously, the Cumulative Net Taker Volume on Binance has shifted from $1.94 billion on Aug. 21 to -$1.36 billion on Oct. 5, signaling that sellers are increasingly crossing the spread to execute trades.

The current market dynamic is characterized by a divergence between aggressive taker selling and price resilience, with ETH trading roughly 44% above its Aug. 6 level. This setup suggests that buyers are currently absorbing the sell pressure.

Traders are now monitoring whether ETF withdrawals will lead to an increase in exchange supply or if ETH can continue to absorb the negative derivatives flow. A potential short squeeze remains a possibility if funding rates turn persistently negative while the price holds its current range, which would force short sellers to pay to maintain their positions.
