# Nvidia Partners With Eight Australian Firms for 2GW AI Infrastructure Expansion

Nvidia has entered into a partnership with eight Australian data center and cloud operators to increase the nation's AI compute capacity to 2 gigawatts by 2027, a project expected to more than double existing infrastructure.

Nvidia announced a collaboration with eight Australian companies on September 9, 2026, aimed at developing 2 gigawatts of AI compute capacity by 2027. This initiative is set to more than double Australia's current data center footprint, which is estimated at approximately 1.6 gigawatts.

The partnership includes Firmus, Sharon AI, IREN, Megaport, ResetData, CDC, NEXTDC, and AirTrunk. Nvidia will provide its DSX AI factory platform, which includes GPUs, networking infrastructure, software, and ecosystem support. The Australian firms are responsible for the construction, ownership, and operation of the facilities.

While Nvidia has not disclosed the capital expenditure for the project, industry estimates suggest that equipping 2 gigawatts of AI compute capacity could cost between A$70 billion and over A$100 billion.

Specific plans have been outlined by some participants. Sharon AI plans to deploy up to 68,000 Nvidia GPUs. IREN is working on an 800 MW data center campus in South Australia, while CDC currently operates over 550 MW of capacity and has an additional 800 MW under construction.

The initiative involves a transition toward high-density, liquid-cooled data centers, a shift noted by CDC and AirTrunk. Liquid cooling is described as a requirement for the heat generated by GPU clusters used in AI training.

The deal structure allows Nvidia to supply technology while the Australian partners manage construction, power procurement, and operational costs. The project is expected to impact companies in the energy, real estate, and networking sectors, with Megaport identified as a publicly listed entity involved in the buildout.
