OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar announced that ChatGPT has surpassed one billion monthly active users on mobile, while the company's enterprise revenue has overtaken consumer subscription income.

OpenAI has reached a milestone with its mobile application, which now serves more than one billion monthly active users. This growth represents a 25-fold increase from the 40 million monthly active users recorded three years ago, according to CFO Sarah Friar.

The company's financial performance has shifted alongside this user growth, with enterprise revenue now exceeding consumer subscription income. In July 2026, the enterprise segment experienced 32% month-over-month growth. OpenAI currently reports an annualized revenue run rate of $40 billion as of August 2026, a significant increase from the $2 billion recorded in 2023 and the $20 billion cleared by 2025.

Data from Sensor Tower confirms the mobile milestone, identifying the application as the fastest to reach one billion monthly active users. By February 2026, the platform had also reached 900 million weekly active users.

While the $40 billion run rate places OpenAI among software companies with significant revenue scale, the figure remains a forward-looking projection rather than a measure of realized cash.
