# Poland Initiates New Crypto Legislation Following Failed Veto Override

Polish lawmakers are drafting a new cryptocurrency bill after the Sejm failed to override President Karol Nawrocki’s veto, leaving the country as the only European Union member state yet to implement MiCA.

The Polish government is preparing a fresh legislative proposal to regulate the cryptocurrency market. This move follows a vote in the Sejm on Friday, where parliament failed to reach the three-fifths majority required to overturn President Karol Nawrocki’s veto of previous legislation.

The vote concluded with 241 members against the motion and 198 in favor, with three abstentions. Parties including PiS, Confederation, and Development+ voted against the override. The Finance Ministry is currently working on a new draft, with further details regarding the timeline expected from the government in the coming days.

The failed legislation was intended to implement the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation. President Nawrocki, who has vetoed crypto asset regulations three times since June, stated that he supports sector regulation and consumer protection but claimed the government disregarded proposals from his office.

Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domański criticized the opposition, accusing PiS of prioritizing crypto business interests over consumer safety. The legislative push gained momentum following the collapse of the exchange Zondacrypto, which resulted in estimated customer losses of at least $95 million.

The Zondacrypto case, which involved reports of blocked withdrawals and the devaluation of the ZND token, is currently subject to a criminal investigation into suspected fraud and money laundering. Authorities are tracking funds across Estonia, Italy, and Switzerland, and several arrests have been made. The situation has also sparked political controversy involving allegations of campaign financing linked to the exchange's leadership, which have been denied.
