# Robinhood Plans Weekend Equities Trading for US Stocks and ETFs

Robinhood announced plans to introduce weekend trading for a curated list of US stocks and ETFs, aiming to provide near-continuous market access pending regulatory approval.

Robinhood revealed plans to offer weekend trading for equities at its HOOD Summit in Houston. The initiative would allow retail traders to buy and sell a curated selection of US stocks and ETFs on Saturdays and Sundays, a move that would make it the first modern American brokerage to offer such access.

The company has not set a specific launch date, as the feature remains subject to regulatory approval. Robinhood indicated the service could arrive soon or early next year.

Orders placed during the weekend will be routed through Bruce ATS, an alternative trading system operated by Bruce Markets. Robinhood and PEAK6 Investments are majority owners of Bruce Markets, providing the brokerage with direct influence over the infrastructure.

This expansion builds on the company's 24 Hour Market, which launched in 2023 and currently operates from Sunday 8 p.m. ET through Friday 8 p.m. ET. The new weekend plan aims to fill the remaining gap in that schedule, creating a near seven-day market for participating securities.

Robinhood noted that roughly 25% of daily volume on its 24 Hour Market currently occurs outside of conventional market hours. Steve Quirk, a Robinhood executive, stated that breaking news does not wait for an opening bell.

The company also announced plans for AI-powered trading agents, earnings contracts in partnership with Cboe, and perpetual futures for select cryptocurrencies following its acquisition of Bitstamp.

The move toward weekend trading carries potential risks, including thinner liquidity, which could lead to wider spreads and increased price volatility. Because alternative trading systems lack the order flow depth of primary exchanges, traders may face higher costs if they do not use limit orders carefully. Robinhood plans to mitigate these risks by limiting the initial rollout to a curated list of highly liquid assets.
