# Taurus Co-Founder Outlines Infrastructure Needs for Swift Blockchain Ledger

> Editorial content, written by CryptoResearch.

Banks must implement specific digital asset infrastructure to utilize Swift’s new blockchain-based ledger for tokenized deposits, according to Taurus co-founder Lamine Brahimi.

Financial institutions looking to connect to Swift’s new blockchain-based ledger must first build out internal digital asset capabilities, according to Lamine Brahimi, co-founder and managing partner of Taurus. While the ledger facilitates round-the-clock, cross-border transfers of tokenized deposits, it functions as an orchestration layer rather than a replacement for existing bank systems.

Brahimi noted that banks require three specific components to integrate with the network: a permissioned ledger that interacts with Swift, digital asset wallet tools, and the ability to handle tokenization and smart contracts. These requirements allow institutions to manage tokenized deposits while maintaining final settlement through established arrangements.

Swift’s move to modernize its messaging system, which has historically dominated global money movements, has already seen live testing. HSBC, Standard Chartered, DBS, and Citi have completed transactions on the ledger, including cross-border payments that settled in minutes even during weekends. In July, Swift reported that 17 banks were preparing for live tokenized-deposit transactions.

Brahimi stated that the need for this additional infrastructure is not a design flaw but rather a reflection of the ledger's early-stage status. He suggested that the system provides banks with a choice between traditional payment rails and 24/7 tokenized deposits. Because the model keeps deposits on bank balance sheets, it remains distinct from stablecoins issued outside the banking sector.

Taurus, which announced its own Swift integration in August, offers a platform that combines the required permissioned ledger, wallet management, and smart-contract software. Brahimi noted that other providers might require banks to use multiple vendors to achieve the same functionality.

The requirement for this specialized infrastructure explains why tokenized deposits have largely been limited to institutional use. While large banks like JPMorgan have utilized internal systems for years, broader adoption requires shared standards and compatible systems between institutions.
