# Tempo Stablecoin Supply Jumps 161% Following Open USD Launch

> Editorial content, written by CryptoResearch.

The Layer 1 blockchain Tempo saw its stablecoin market cap grow by $462 million in one week, fueled by the introduction of the Open USD stablecoin.

Tempo, a Layer 1 blockchain backed by Stripe and Paradigm, recorded a 161% increase in its aggregate stablecoin market cap over the past week. Data from DefiLlama shows the chain's total stablecoin supply reached approximately $729 million, marking a $462 million rise.

The surge follows the September 30, 2026, launch of Open USD, or OUSD. The new stablecoin currently accounts for roughly 64.7% of the total stablecoin market on Tempo, with a market cap of approximately $471.72 million.

OUSD is positioned for institutional use, with reserves held at BNY Mellon, Lead Bank, and BlackRock. The asset launched with over $400 million in liquidity across various platforms and features zero fees for minting or redeeming, alongside no volume caps.

Support for OUSD access includes Stripe, Coinbase, and Visa, with Mastercard expected to provide support in the future. Other stablecoins currently active on the Tempo network include USDC at $92.76 million, USDBridge at $86.02 million, and pathUSD at $60.99 million.

Tempo launched its mainnet on March 18, 2026, following a $500 million Series A funding round in October 2025 that valued the project at $5 billion. The network is built on Ethereum architecture but is optimized for enterprise-scale stablecoin payments, with average transaction fees below $0.001.

A unique feature of the chain is its lack of a native token, as transaction fees are paid using supported stablecoins. The project is also working on potential partnerships with Visa and OpenAI, though these agreements remain unfinalized.
