# Waymo Upsizes Debt Financing to $5 Billion for Global Expansion

> Editorial content, written by CryptoResearch.

Alphabet's autonomous vehicle unit Waymo has secured $5 billion in private debt to fund fleet growth and AI compute costs, marking a shift from equity-based funding.

Waymo announced on October 6, 2026, that it has upsized its inaugural private debt financing to $5 billion. The company had initially estimated a raise of more than $3 billion, but increased the total following strong lender appetite.

The financing was arranged by Goldman Sachs and includes participation from private credit firms such as PIMCO, Blackstone Inc., and Sixth Street Partners. The loan is unrated, meaning lenders conducted their own assessments of the company's repayment capacity. Pricing for the debt is set at 5.25 percentage points above the benchmark rate.

The capital is intended to support fleet expansion and rising costs associated with AI and compute infrastructure. Waymo, which previously relied on equity funding, including a $16 billion round in February 2026 that valued the company at $126 billion, is now utilizing debt to avoid further dilution of existing equity holders.

Waymo currently operates over 500,000 paid rides per week across 14 to 15 cities in the United States. The company aims to reach 1 million weekly rides across 20 cities globally by the end of 2026. International expansion plans include launches in London, Tokyo, and Munich, with the Munich market targeted for late 2027.

The deal highlights the willingness of large non-bank lenders to finance capital-intensive technology firms. Traders and observers are now looking to see if Waymo meets its year-end ridership targets and how the international rollout progresses in the coming months.
