# Zcash Holders Prepare for Governance Vote on Network Issuance and Block Times

Zcash holders are approaching a snapshot deadline to participate in a signaling vote regarding potential changes to the network's issuance model and block speed.

Zcash holders must hold spendable shielded ZEC in Ironwood at block 3,459,350 to qualify for an upcoming governance vote. The snapshot is expected to occur around 19:00 UTC on Aug. 24, with voting scheduled to take place from Aug. 25 through Sept. 14 at 19:00 UTC.

The vote covers several proposals for the NU7 network upgrade, including a potential shift from periodic halvings to a gradual issuance curve. Another proposal suggests reducing target block times from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. These changes would not alter the total supply cap of Zcash.

Organizers Valar Group and Project Tachyon stated that the poll is advisory and does not automatically implement protocol changes. Any approved measures would still require further development and deployment to become consensus rules. The vote also includes questions regarding the timeline for returning ZEC to circulation, the decommissioning of the Sprout pool, and whether to delay the NU7 launch if certain features miss the Sept. 30 deadline.

Participation requires at least 1 million ZEC to be represented across the five questions for the results to be considered valid. The governance process coincides with a period of increased market activity for ZEC, which recently traded as high as $880.
