Binance Leads August Spot Trading Volume Recovery

Binance recorded $243B in spot trading volume during August as total volume across 14 major centralized exchanges rose 19% to $510.4B, driven by a 30% surge in Bitcoin's price.

Binance reclaimed the top position among centralized exchanges in August, reporting up to $243B in spot trading volume. This activity occurred as the broader cryptocurrency market experienced a recovery following a decline in July.

The increase in trading volume was largely attributed to a 30% rise in the price of Bitcoin throughout August. This volatility prompted increased market participation, with daily trading peaks reaching approximately $37B mid-month. Binance reported inflows exceeding $15.7B during the period, with trading activity concentrated primarily in Bitcoin.

Across a sample of 14 major centralized exchanges, total spot volume reached $510.4B in August, representing a 19% increase from the $429B recorded in July. In July, spot volume had decreased by 21.7% compared to previous levels.

Binance maintained a market share of approximately 45% to 46% within the 14-exchange sample. However, when measured against a broader set of centralized exchanges, Binance's market share is estimated at around 28%. This wider dataset showed a total spot volume of approximately $811B, a 15% increase from the $705B recorded in July, which was noted as a two-year low.

While August saw a recovery in trading activity, total volumes remained below levels observed in earlier periods. Other exchanges, including Coinbase and KuCoin, also reported percentage gains in trading volume during the month.
