Binance SAFU Fund Holds $1.27B in Bitcoin Following Strategic Conversion
Binance’s Secure Asset Fund for Users currently holds 15,000 BTC, with the exchange sitting on approximately $270 million in unrealized profit from the position.

Binance’s emergency insurance fund, known as the Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU), has reached a value of over $1.27 billion. The fund, which serves as a backstop for customers in the event of security breaches, currently holds 15,000 BTC.
The exchange shifted its strategy in mid-February 2026, converting roughly $1 billion in stablecoins into Bitcoin. This process concluded on February 12 with a final purchase of 4,545 BTC, at a time when Bitcoin was trading at approximately $67,000. At that price, the total acquisition was valued at about $1.005 billion.
By early May 2026, the value of the fund had surpassed $1.2 billion as Bitcoin traded above $81,000. The fund’s unrealized gains have since grown to approximately $270 million. Binance has made the fund’s wallet address, 1BAuq7Vho2CEkVkUxbfU26LhwQjbCmWQkD, public for on-chain verification.
Binance established the SAFU fund in July 2018, initially financing it through 10% of trading fees. The fund has previously been utilized to cover user losses, including a $40 million hack in 2019. Regarding the 2026 conversion, Binance stated it views Bitcoin as a reserve asset due to its transparency, auditability, and role as a hedge against inflation and counterparty risk.
The exchange maintains a policy to restore the fund to $1 billion should its market value drop below $800 million. Binance has also committed to conducting regular audits of the fund. As a long-term reserve, the 15,000 BTC position is intended to remain held during routine market volatility.
Traders may continue to monitor the wallet balance and the fund’s reported value relative to the $800 million threshold, as well as the delivery of the promised audits.
