Ethereum Records Quarterly Growth Amid Robinhood Chain Meme Coin Activity

Ethereum recorded a 66% gain during the third quarter of 2026. This performance was driven by a combination of factors, including over $10 billion in ETF inflows, more than $15 billion in corporate ETH purchases, and a resurgence in decentralized finance activity.

Robinhood Chain, an Ethereum Layer-2 network that launched its public mainnet on July 1, 2026, became a focal point for this activity. Although the network was designed to facilitate the trading of tokenized real-world assets, retail traders prioritized meme coin activity shortly after the launch.

The network features 100-millisecond block processing and utilizes ETH as its native gas token. It also incorporates Uniswap automated market maker services and the Morpho lending protocol. Despite the intended focus on institutional stock trading, the chain saw daily decentralized exchange volume peak at over $800 million, with total value locked reaching into the hundreds of millions.

The flagship meme token on the network, CASHCAT, reached a market capitalization of approximately $220 million following its launch. During the quarter, total value locked across related chains reached approximately $88 billion.

Alice Liu, research lead at CoinMarketCap, identified the meme-driven attention on Robinhood Chain as a key indicator of retail capital flow. In a September 4, 2026 interview, Liu noted a correlation between the rise of Bitcoin and the recent successes within the Ethereum DeFi ecosystem.
