Nasdaq Hits Record High as AMD Joins Trillion-Dollar Club
The Nasdaq Composite reached a new all-time high of 27,121 on September 21, fueled by a rally in AI-focused technology stocks and a decline in Treasury yields.

The Nasdaq Composite closed at 27,121 on September 21, setting a fresh record and surpassing the previous high of 27,093.90 reached on June 2. The S&P 500 also saw gains, finishing near 7,760.29 as it moved closer to its August highs.
Advanced Micro Devices led the market, rallying nearly 10% to push its market capitalization above $1 trillion for the first time. Other semiconductor stocks saw significant movement, with Intel and Arm Holdings both rising more than 12%. Meta Platforms also gained roughly 11% following analyst upgrades related to its Muse AI assistant.
Broader market conditions provided support for the rally, as the 10-year Treasury yield fell to approximately 4.976%. Lower yields typically increase the present value of growth stocks by reducing the discount rate applied to future earnings.
Brent crude oil prices also declined, moving toward $100.58 per barrel. This drop was linked to diplomatic developments in the Middle East and a scheduled meeting between former President Donald Trump and Xi Jinping.
The market has shown a recurring pattern throughout 2025 and 2026, characterized by volatility from geopolitical events or tariffs followed by recoveries driven by AI-related technology stocks. AMD has continued to capture market share from Intel in data center processors while establishing itself as an alternative to Nvidia for AI accelerators.
