U.S. Government Wallets Move Over $100 Million in BTC and BNB

Wallets linked to the U.S. government transferred more than $100 million in crypto on Tuesday, though a sale has not been confirmed.

Wallets associated with the U.S. government moved over $100 million in cryptocurrency on Tuesday, according to data from blockchain intelligence firm Arkham. The transfers included approximately $71.6 million in bitcoin and $31.6 million in BNB.

The government moved 833.599 BTC, which was sent to two unlabeled addresses before being transferred to addresses identified by Arkham as Coinbase Prime deposit addresses. These bitcoin holdings originated from the Potapenko-Turogin forfeited funds and the Bitfinex hack case.

A separate government-labeled wallet transferred 40,285 BNB to an unlabeled address, which subsequently moved the assets to a second unlabeled address. These BNB tokens were seized from Alameda Research.

While such movements often trigger concerns regarding potential sell pressure, a sale has not been confirmed. Market commentator Jose Rosell noted on X that a transfer is not the same as a sale, citing a March 2025 executive order that requires bitcoin forfeited to the government to be held in a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.

The U.S. government currently holds about $27.5 billion in seized cryptocurrency. To date, the government has not used taxpayer funds to make new crypto purchases.
