ARK Invest Projects AI Market Potential at $30 Trillion
ARK Invest Chief Futurist Brett Winton forecasts that artificial intelligence will substitute for knowledge worker labor, potentially shifting trillions in spending toward software by 2030.

ARK Invest Chief Futurist Brett Winton has identified a $30 trillion opportunity for artificial intelligence, arguing that the technology will replace rather than merely assist knowledge workers. This shift is expected to redirect significant portions of global labor spending toward software and automation.
The firm projects that annual AI-driven software spending could reach between $3 trillion and $7 trillion by 2030. This growth would represent a significant expansion of the current global software market. According to Winton, the cost of AI inference on agentic benchmarks has declined by more than 99% year over year, a trend expected to continue through mid-2026.
Frontier model companies are positioned as the primary beneficiaries of this transition, with ARK estimating their potential enterprise value at $15 trillion to $20 trillion. The firm notes that OpenAI currently generates between $20 billion and $30 billion in annual recurring revenue, while Anthropic has demonstrated rapid growth in recent quarters.
Economic data from ARK suggests that compute capacity rents at $10 billion per gigawatt, while generating $30 billion in monetized output per gigawatt. This implies that for every dollar invested in data center infrastructure, three dollars of economic value are produced.
ARK forecasts that AI adoption could accelerate annual GDP growth to 7%, significantly higher than the 2-3% average observed in the US economy in recent decades. The firm suggests that redirecting 10-20% of the $30 trillion knowledge-worker wage bill toward AI services could result in a substantial wealth transfer.
Investors are advised to monitor adoption velocity and margin compression. Faster enterprise adoption could push software spending toward the higher end of ARK's projections, while increased competition among model providers could shift value away from frontier companies and toward the application layer and end users.
