Bitcoin Coinbase Premium Hits Four-Week Low Amid Weakening U.S. Demand
Bitcoin's Coinbase premium has dropped to a four-week low as U.S. buying demand cools, weighed down by regulatory setbacks and anticipation of a Federal Reserve rate hike.

The Coinbase Premium Index, which tracks the price difference between Bitcoin on Coinbase and Binance, has fallen to its lowest level in four weeks. The index hit approximately -0.07% on Tuesday, representing a discount of roughly $50 on a $75,900 Bitcoin price. This shift from the -0.02% level seen a day earlier signals a cooling in buying pressure from U.S. investors.
The decline follows the failure of the Clarity Act on Tuesday, a legislative setback that has dampened sentiment. This marks a notable reversal from late August and early September, when the premium turned positive as Bitcoin rallied toward $80,000. Since then, the price has retreated to around $75,000.
Macroeconomic headwinds are also contributing to the current market environment. Markets are bracing for the Federal Reserve's upcoming decision, with a 25-basis-point rate hike widely expected. Such a move would lift the federal funds target range to 3.75% to 4%.
Broader financial conditions have tightened as the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield climbed above 5%. Meanwhile, elevated energy prices, with Brent crude near $108 a barrel and WTI near $104, continue to fuel inflation concerns. These factors, combined with regulatory uncertainty, are creating a challenging backdrop for Bitcoin and other risk assets.
