US Gasoline Prices Seen Staying Above $4 Per Gallon

Bloomberg reports that U.S. gasoline prices are expected to hold above $4 per gallon, a trend linked to ongoing supply constraints and potential upward pressure on crude oil markets.

Gasoline prices across the United States are projected to remain above $4 per gallon. This forecast follows recent market trends, as the national average has climbed past the $4 mark several times throughout the year, including a peak of $4.15 on Labor Day.

The sustained level of high prices is attributed to ongoing supply constraints. These conditions are creating upward pressure on the broader energy market, specifically regarding crude oil.

Current market pricing indicates a 1.8% probability of crude oil reaching a new all-time high by September 30. This likelihood increases to 13.5% by December 31.

Market participants are tracking potential announcements from the IEA and OPEC, as these could shift oil supply dynamics. Other factors being monitored include geopolitical developments in the Middle East, potential U.S. policy changes, and consumer spending trends.
