As Bitcoin reached the $80,000 level on Friday, Calacanis argued that the digital asset has failed to achieve mass adoption or establish a critical use case after 17 years.
In his critique, Calacanis suggested that Bitcoin is no longer a tool for rapid wealth accumulation and has become boring to the general public. He further claimed that the asset struggles with smart contracts and transaction efficiency, while also noting that the user experience remains intimidating for new participants.
Michael Saylor responded to the comments by highlighting Bitcoin's growth since 2011. He pointed to its status as a $1.6 trillion asset and the most valuable digital asset in the world.
Saylor pushed back against the idea that Bitcoin needs to entertain dinner party conversations, stating that the primary goal of the asset is preserving wealth across generations. He concluded his response by affirming that the orange tie stays.
