Tron Surpasses Ethereum in USDT Supply

Tron has overtaken Ethereum as the primary network for USDT, with its supply reaching $94.27 billion following a $4 billion monthly increase.

Tron has surpassed Ethereum in total USDT supply, marking a shift in the distribution of the world's largest stablecoin. On-chain data indicates that the USDT supply on Tron rose by $4 billion over the past month, bringing the total to $94.27 billion.

This development follows a trend observed earlier in the year. By the end of Q2 2026, Tron hosted $87.9 billion in circulating USDT, while Ethereum held $78.7 billion. USDT represents 98.5% of all stablecoins on the Tron network.

The network's growth is supported by high transaction volumes, with $2.1 trillion in USDT transfers processed during Q2. Daily transfer volumes frequently exceed $20 billion, supported by a user base that reached over 400 million accounts by late August.

The migration of USDT to Tron is attributed to lower transaction fees and higher throughput compared to Ethereum. These factors appeal to retail traders, remittance senders, and businesses. Tether has facilitated this shift by favoring Tron for large-scale minting, a pattern observed since 2022.

With Tron's share of global USDT circulation exceeding 50% at various points, the network's dominance may influence future regulatory scrutiny. Policymakers may focus on the network's governance and its association with Justin Sun as they develop oversight for stablecoin issuance and blockchain-based payments.
