TRON Tops $30 Trillion in Lifetime Volume as USDT Supply Passes $94 Billion

TRON’s USDT-driven transaction volume has crossed $30 trillion, strengthening its role in crypto payments while putting more pressure on the network’s compliance controls.

TRON has processed more than $30 trillion in cumulative transaction volume, driven by a large USDT footprint that is pushing the network further into payments and regulated financial products.

More than $94 billion in Tether’s USDT circulates on TRON, giving it the largest USDT supply of any blockchain, TRON DAO said on Sept. 24. Citing Token Terminal data, the DAO said the network has handled about $6 trillion in USDT transfers so far in 2026, or roughly $25 billion per day.

Since launch, TRON has recorded more than 15 billion transactions across 405 million accounts. Its reach is also expanding beyond wallet-to-wallet transfers through crypto payment cards.

TRON represented 34% of crypto payment-card volume in the second quarter, compared with 33% in the first quarter, according to CoinDesk Research figures cited by TRON DAO. Total card volume rose to $2.4 billion from $2 billion over the same period.

The $30 trillion total covers all value transferred on TRON since launch, not just commercial payments. The network does not provide a breakdown between merchant transactions, exchange transfers and wallet movements, making the makeup of that volume harder to assess.

TRON’s deep stablecoin liquidity has also created a substantial compliance challenge. TRM Labs estimated that the network processed more than $26 billion of the $45 billion in illicit crypto volume it identified in 2024, the highest amount among blockchains covered by the data.

That activity included crypto linked to scams, hacks, sanctioned entities and darknet markets. TRM attributed the concentration in part to TRON’s low transaction costs and access to widely used stablecoins.

TRON and Tether have increased their enforcement efforts through the T3 Financial Crime Unit, which they established with TRM Labs in 2024. The unit had frozen more than $450 million in illicit assets by May 2026 and works with authorities in 23 jurisdictions.

T3 has supported investigations involving exchange hacks, North Korea-linked activity, terrorist financing, drugs and violent crimes. In some cases, suspicious USDT was frozen within 24 hours of a request from law enforcement.

The network has also faced US regulatory scrutiny. The Securities and Exchange Commission sued Justin Sun, the Tron Foundation and related entities in 2023 over allegations that included securities violations and manipulative trading. A March 2026 resolution settled a wash-trading claim against Rainberry and dismissed the remaining claims against Rainberry, along with all claims against Sun, the Tron Foundation and the BitTorrent Foundation.

TRON is now moving further into regulated markets. Canary Capital launched a staked TRX exchange-traded fund this month, Anchorage Digital added TRX staking and custody for TRC-20 assets, and a tokenized Hamilton Lane fund issued through Securitize launched on the network.

Those products give asset managers, custodians and payment firms access to TRON’s dollar liquidity, but they also bring exposure to a network with a large record of illicit flows. As USDT use spreads across payments and institutional products, TRON will need to show that enforcement systems such as T3 can scale with the activity.
