UBS Increases S&P 500 Year-End Target to 8,100
UBS Global Wealth Management has raised its S&P 500 year-end target to 8,100, citing an earnings reset driven by technology, energy, and artificial intelligence adoption.

UBS Global Wealth Management announced on August 21 that it has increased its year-end target for the S&P 500 to 8,100, rising from a previous estimate of 7,900. The firm also adjusted its mid-2027 target to 8,400, up from 8,200.
The revision is attributed to an earnings-driven upgrade rather than a valuation stretch. UBS raised its 2026 earnings per share forecast for the index to $350 from $335, and its 2027 estimate to $400 from $375. These adjustments reflect an earnings reset, as the bank anticipates that corporate profit growth will drive index performance.
The new 8,100 target implies a forward price-to-earnings multiple of approximately 20.3x, lower than the 21.1x multiple associated with the previous forecast. This suggests that the bank expects earnings growth to outpace price appreciation.
The upgrade follows a period where nearly 80% of S&P 500 companies exceeded analyst expectations, surpassing the historical average of 73%. UBS noted that strength is concentrated in technology, semiconductors, and energy, with artificial intelligence adoption serving as a tailwind for these sectors.
Despite the positive outlook, UBS identified several risks, including rising oil prices, renewed inflation, and the possibility that artificial intelligence investments may fail to deliver expected returns. The bank noted that its target relies on companies maintaining a high earnings beat rate, and that the math could become tighter if this rate reverts toward the 73% historical average.
