Bitcoin Nears Rare Three-Month Winning Streak Not Seen Since 2012
Bitcoin is on track to close September with gains, marking a rare three-month winning streak that has only occurred once before in the asset's history.

Bitcoin is currently positioned for a three-month winning streak, a rare occurrence that has only been recorded once before in the history of the asset. Following price increases in July and August, the current month is also trending higher.
Data shows that Bitcoin rose 4.8% in July and 25.2% in August. As of the latest reporting, September is showing a 10.9% gain, with the price trading at $86,140.
The only previous instance of a three-month winning streak occurred in 2012, when Bitcoin posted gains of 41.0%, 6.4%, and 24.4% across those three months. Following that streak, the price fell 9.7% in October before eventually launching into a rally that saw gains of more than 2,000% by April 2013.
While the 2012 precedent is noteworthy, the small sample size makes it difficult to draw definitive conclusions about future price action. Historical cycle models suggest a potentially bullish phase could begin around October or November, though these patterns are not fixed rules.
Market analysts note that the current environment is significantly different from 2012. Bitcoin is now part of a multi-trillion dollar market with deep liquidity across spot and derivatives venues, as well as substantial institutional participation. These factors make a percentage-based rally of the same magnitude as the 2012 run much harder to achieve in the current market structure.
