Brazilian Financial Operator CSD BR Integrates XRP Ledger for Fund Records

CSD BR, a Brazilian financial operator managing $4 trillion in assets, has begun mirroring investment fund records on the XRP Ledger to streamline reconciliation processes.

CSD BR, a regulated operator in Brazil responsible for over 22 trillion reais in assets, has started recording ownership data for selected BTG Pactual investment funds on the public XRP Ledger. While the blockchain serves as a secondary record, the company's existing database remains the official source for registration, custody, and settlement.

The initiative aims to simplify the reconciliation process between banks and depositories. By maintaining a blockchain-based copy, approved institutions can verify ownership changes in real time, reducing the delays and costs typically associated with comparing internal books against a central depository.

The project utilizes the XRP Ledger's Multi-Purpose Token standard, which allows CSD BR to maintain control over asset transfers and participant eligibility. Despite the use of a public ledger, the operator retains the ability to restrict access, freeze assets, or reverse transactions to comply with regulatory or court requirements.

CSD BR, which was founded in 2018 and is authorized by Brazil's central bank and securities regulator, is currently testing the system with live fund records. This move represents a shift from traditional blockchain pilots that rely on closed networks or test assets.

Looking ahead, CSD BR and Ripple plan to explore the direct issuance and trading of assets on the ledger. Potential future use cases include the tokenization of Brazilian real-estate and agribusiness receivables.
