Kalshi Traders Price 56% Probability for September Jobs Above 90,000
Prediction market participants on Kalshi are betting on the upcoming September nonfarm payrolls report, with contracts indicating a 56% chance that job additions exceed 90,000.

Traders on the CFTC-regulated prediction market Kalshi are positioning for the September nonfarm payrolls report, which is scheduled for release by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on October 2. The platform's contract for job additions above 90,000 is currently priced at 60 cents, suggesting a 56% probability that the final figure will clear that threshold.
Trading volume for these specific payroll contracts has reached approximately $119,000. The market sentiment aligns closely with broader economist forecasts, which estimate job growth for the month to fall between 84,000 and 95,000. Because the 90,000 mark sits near the center of these projections, the contract pricing reflects a near coin-flip scenario rather than a strong directional bias.
The upcoming data follows an August report that showed 162,000 jobs added, a figure that provided a rebound after a weaker July. Kalshi also hosts markets for the U-3 unemployment rate and various combinations involving jobless claims.
The jobs report is being closely watched for its potential impact on Federal Reserve policy. A result between 90,000 and the August level of 162,000 would likely support a narrative of gradual economic normalization. Conversely, a print below 84,000 could lead traders to anticipate more aggressive rate cuts, while a surprise move above 125,000 might delay current rate-cut expectations.
