Trump Appoints Jay Clayton to Lead New Super Intelligence Force
President Donald Trump has named Jay Clayton as the White House AI czar to head a new task force focused on maintaining US leadership in artificial intelligence.

President Donald Trump appointed Jay Clayton as the White House AI czar on October 3, 2026. Clayton is tasked with leading a newly formed group known as the Super Intelligence Force.
The task force is required to submit a report within 120 days. This report will evaluate the risks and opportunities associated with artificial intelligence and outline the role of Washington in ensuring the US remains at the forefront of the AI sector.
Clayton will lead the panel alongside other officials, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Clayton has stated that the US must maintain its lead in super intelligence technologies.
The formation of this task force follows a meeting held on September 29, 2026, between President Trump and leaders from the AI industry. During that event, Trump supported the creation of a voluntary White House Accord on Super Intelligence, which encourages companies to implement internal safeguards and oversight.
The task force intends to focus on strengthening existing incident-reporting mechanisms rather than introducing new regulations. Clayton previously became the Director of National Intelligence on July 28, 2026, following a 51-47 Senate vote.
